Veteran sinkerballer Jake Westbrook will start Friday in Miami for the Cardinals in his first start since going on the disabled list with elbow irritation.
Westbrook made two rehab assignment starts in the minors and threw a bullpen this afternoon at Citi Field. He said the elbow feels its best of the season -- including spring.
The Cardinals' move to make a spot on the roster is to be determined and could be based on the outcome of tonight's start by Michael Wacha. Friday is Tyler Lyons' scheduled start. He will be moved off it but could remain on the roster if the Cardinals elect to go with three lefties in the bullpen or keep Lyons in the majors and return Wacha to the Class AAA rotation.
Lyons will not be available to pitch in this series in New York, manager Mike Matheny said.
Welcome to an unofficial blog of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. The name is Tyler Cobb (@tcobb1990) and I'm 22 years young. Becoming a sports writer or TV/Radio broadcaster is a big dream of mine and I am using this to help me make it. Follow the blog for everything Cardinals' that you need to know. I will be writing game previews, recaps, my own team and player analysts -- and much more. Thanks and Go Cardinals!
